Sara Han
Assistant Principal Clarinet/E-flat Clarinet
Sara Han is the Assistant Principal and E-flat Clarinetist of the Washington National Opera and the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. She previously served as Acting Principal Clarinetist of the Opera Philadelphia Orchestra, where she contributed to the Grammy-nominated recording of Soldier Songs, recognized for Best Opera Recording.
Sara earned her Master’s Degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in Houston, TX, where she was also a member of the DaCamera Young Artist Program. Before that, she completed her undergraduate studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA.
In addition to her formal education, Sara has participated in several music festivals, including the Music Academy of the West—where she won the Keston MAX Audition—as well as the Lakes Area Music Festival, New York String Orchestra Seminar, Aspen Music Festival and School, and the National Youth Orchestra of the USA.
An avid teacher, Sara offers private lessons and has given masterclasses at the Peabody Institute of Music of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Wyoming.
She was named winner of the 2018 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition, has been featured on NPR’s From the Top, and has appeared as a soloist with the Interlochen Academy Orchestra and the Seoul Romance Orchestra. She is deeply grateful for the mentorship of Richie Hawley, Anthony McGill, and Emil Khudyev.
