Ryan Ran Huo
Violin
Chinese-born violinist Ryan Ran Huo joined the Washington National Opera Orchestra/Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra in 2025 as a member of the violin section. Ryan began his formal studies at the age of ten at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, and during that time he performed with the China Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Four Seasons Chamber Orchestra, touring Taiwan and Europe in 2016. He continued his musical path at the Interlochen Arts Academy before earning a full-scholarship to the Peabody Conservatory, where he studied with Qing Li and received his bachelor’s degree. He completed his master’s degree in 2024 at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, working with Blair Milton.
Ryan has appeared in masterclasses for Shlomo Mintz, Vadim Gluzman, and Midori Goto, and is a prize-winner of the Jacqueline Avent Concerto Competition, the Marbury Violin Competition at Peabody, and the Rocky Mountain International Strings Competition in Canada. As a soloist he has appeared under the baton of JoAnn Falletta.
An active orchestral performer, Ryan served as concertmaster of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago before joining the New World Symphony as a fellow in 2025. He frequently appears as a guest musician performing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, working with conductors including Paavo Järvi, Manfred Honeck, Jakub Hrůša, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Klaus Mäkelä. In Summer 2025, he performed at the Ravinia Festival under Marin Alsop.
