Evan Geiger
Horn
Dr. Evan Geiger is a versatile and accomplished French Horn player whose career spans military, opera, orchestral, and Broadway stages across the United States. Achieving a longtime dream, he joined the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra/Washington National Opera Orchestra in 2025 as Fourth Horn.
Since 2011, Dr. Geiger has served as a Horn player in The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own”, a premier musical organization of the United States Army, where he has also been a First Alternate for the prestigious U.S. Army Band Brass Quintet since 2013.
He has maintained a long-standing commitment to the world of opera as the Principal Horn of the Pittsburgh Opera since 2009. During the 2024-25 season, Dr. Geiger held a year-long contract with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra as Acting Assistant Principal. His experience as a principal player also includes the Artosphere Festival, the Lyrica Chamber Orchestra, and the New York Chamber Virtuosi. Earlier in his career, he held the Fourth Horn position with the Riverside Symphonia.
Dr. Geiger is highly sought after as a substitute and guest artist, demonstrating his adaptability. His extensive list of substitute engagements includes several of the nation's leading orchestras: National Symphony Orchestra, MET Opera Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, and the Wheeling Symphony.
His career also includes significant experience in theatrical music, including a regular position with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. His numerous Broadway substitute credits feature long runs with Disney’s The Lion King,Wicked, South Pacific, Shrek, Legally Blonde, and Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
A dedicated scholar of his instrument, Evan Geiger holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A) (2014) and a Master of Music (M.M.) (2007) from the Manhattan School of Music, where he was the recipient of a full tuition scholarship for his doctoral studies. He earned his B.A. Magna Cum Laude (2005) from UCLA with a full tuition scholarship.
He has studied with highly esteemed teachers, including Erik Ralske, R. Allen Spanjer, Jerome Ashby, and Brian O’Connor. His achievements have been recognized with awards such as the John Clarke Award in Brass Performance(2007) and multiple accolades in the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition.
When not in the pit, Evan spends time with his wife, Megan, and two boys, Rohan and Finnley, both of whom are avid dancers, baseball players, and musicians.
